The Javel vd tedoend C%
be extended to 1,000 yards nearly the whole of the site proposed for the Military Hospital will be within the limits of danger according to the Range Requirements of the new Magazine Rifle.
*Stonecutters' Range".
9.
This Range 300 L. Yards in length
was granted conditionally 3.8.0.3048 of 1883. The proposed ex- tension of this Range encroaches on War Department Property and the Military Bungalow (see plan submitted herewith) comes withia the limits of danger.
9.
It appears almost hopeless with the
limited area suitable for Rifle Ranges within this Colony to further extend the existing Ranges unless the Naval and Military Authorities will act together in the matter.
10.
I apprehend considerable difficulty in providing adequate range accommodation for the Navy and Army specially since the addition to the Garrison of the Hongkong Regiment numbering upwards of 1,000 strong.
11.
It does however appear possible that some arrangement might be made for the Police and Rifle Associa- tion to use one Range viz:- the present Police Range and if the remaining Ranges one of which viz:- the Military Range is extended to 1,000 yards could be used jointly by the Navy and Army a possi- ble solution might be obtained to meet present requirements.
13.
In conclusion I would point out that His Excellency the General Commanding specially referred to the increasel range accommodation necessary for the Military Forces at the last Meating re Military Reserves and Lands presided over by His Excellency the Governor.
